Heritage of the 51st Virtual Fighter Wing
“Honor the past. Inspire the future.”
Our Roots: 1999 (667th Black Knights)
Our Formation: 2013
A Message from the Wing: This Is Our Story
We are the 51st Virtual Fighter Wing—a brotherhood of pilots and controllers bound by realism, discipline, and unbreakable camaraderie. What started as humble dogfights in 1999 has grown into a multi-branch powerhouse, where we routinely put over 60 aircraft in the air and fly 20+ missions every month.
This heritage is our collective voice. We’ve drawn from the testimonies of our veterans, archived rosters, cherished videos, and the memories we all share. We celebrate icons like the Danger Zone series—timeless works like the 2016 JDAM rejoin masterpiece and the hilarious 2014 Tree Defense.
Our Cultural Icons and Traditions
- Thong Night: The merch that reminds us to laugh Check it out.
- Danger Zone Series: JoNay's hype reels—epic + absurd (JDAM rejoins, Tree Defense gold).
- Elephant Walks & Airshows: Our way of celebrating unity.
Our History
Our Deepest Roots: The Black Knights Begin (1999–2012)
Our story traces back to 1999, when Dark Knight founded the 667th Fighter Squadron "Black Knights" in the dial-up era. We flew Jane's F-15, Fighters Anthology, and early Falcon 4.0 (pre-BMS, including Allied Force). The name carried profound meaning—honoring the 367th WWII squadron of his grandfather, the Black Knights of Death.
From the beginning, Maverick's dedicated wingman was Bill Kelleher. They flew side by side until ALS took Bill around 2011. We carry Bill with us on every sortie—an eternal Black Knight.
Around 2011–2013, Coolcat—our passionate "filthy Eagle lover" limited by available modules—formed the 67th Fighting Cocks, adding more Viper strength.
These were our pioneering days: open recruitment, raw PvP passion, and friendships that endured beyond the sim.
(1999–2011): Maverick's wingman—lost to ALS, forever on our wing.
The Merger That Built Us Stronger (2013)
In 2013, Maverick from the Black Knights and Coolcat and Squeak from the Fighting Cocks brought us together. They merged, officially creating the 51st Virtual Fighter Wing on Falcon BMS 4.32.
JoNay joined us that year, starting in the Fighting Cocks. Coolcat soon passed command to him amid growing demands—JoNay rising to lead the wing in months. Squeak stepped back for lone-wolf adventures but has remained family.
We welcomed reinforcements like Cyclops, Viral, Shamrock, Smokey, Fearless, Grifo, and countless others whose callsigns still spark stories. Our roster grew quickly, though many stayed inactive—a lesson in building with purpose.
Our battlefield became Falcon Online persistent PvP campaigns: intense 24/7 months of war, balanced by focused training periods.
Our Golden Age: Legends Born in BMS (2014–2016)
We remember the marathon weekends vividly:
- Dawn flights tailored for our Singapore brethren, "Cyclops."
- Midday energy with Maverick and Shamrock ("Shammy").
- Evening AG masterclasses from Lion and ZipGun's crews—averaging 30+ kills per sortie with unmatched cannon precision (Lion never RTB'd until every round was gone).
- Late-night BFM lessons from KidVicious (KV), humbling us until the sun rose.
Our legendary allies and rivals—who pushed us to greatness—included Archer (JoNay's sim soulmate), KidVicious, B3rno, Lion, ZipGun, CenterMass (still flying with us in 2025), Maeco, Squeak, and Demo (tied to the 1st VFW).
JoNay said it best: "There were soooo many legendary OGs back then that were friends of our wing... absolute legends that the new generation will never know about. So many legends."

The Danger Zone
Watch: Danger Zone Short - JDAM's Rejoin (2016)
Watch: 51st VFW: RF2 [Day 20] - The Tree Defense (2014)
Our culture defined us:
- Thong Night—irreverent merchandise that captured our humor (CafePress originals; revival calls never fade).
- Danger Zone Shorts—JoNay's cinematic triumphs blending epic maneuvers and comedy (the 2016 JDAM rejoin still inspires awe; the 2014 Tree Defense remains pure chaos).
The 2016 BMS 4.33 update brought stunning improvements but disrupted persistent PvP. We adapted with inter-wing events, welcoming new cores JDAM and Servo, and shifting to milsim—creating Initial Qualification Training (IQT) to unite our ranks.
Hibernation: A Time of Vigilance (2017–2020)
PvP challenges led to our hibernation vote. We stayed woven via forums, eyes locked on DCS—awaiting Hornet and Viper modules to call us home.
Our Rebirth in DCS: Growth and Renewal (2020–Present)
April/May 2020: Viper's release reignited us. Core—JoNay, Cyclops, Maverick, Shamrock, JDAM, Servo—answers the call. Discord launches; recruitment booms.
We shaped our future deliberately:
- Disbanded Fighting Cocks (JoNay to Hornets).
- Voted VFA-211 "Fighting Checkmates" livery, honoring the real-world squadron.
- Rage stewards 667th heritage (Maverick's BMS heart endures).
We expanded boldly:
- 75th FS "Tiger Sharks" (A-10C; early CO ~"Hill").
- 1st Regiment Army Air Corps (rotary: AH-64D+; joint helo/Harrier origins under Jimbo—named for Servo's British WWII grandfather).
- 964th AACS "Phoenix" (~2021; controllers—Bishop recruits Pebble, ~1-year handoff).
We explored boldly:
- JoNay's VF-143 "Pukin' Dogs" (F-14).
- Servo's Hornets (talents like Swift/NaCl "Salt"; brief external milsim, F-15E return).
- Swift + prior CO (real maintainers) ignite 492nd "Madhatters" (~2023).
- VMA-231 "Black Aces" (Harriers).
By ~2023, we streamlined: Disband Pukin' Dogs/Black Aces (recruitment realities). Servo ventures anew; JoNay reclaims Hornets.
Today: Aviator-forged pipelines, rituals (Fri 2230 EST ops, Wed training), epics (Anvil Strike, Red Dragon, Inherent Resolve), Elephant Walks, airshows.
